Public and private funding

The agency receives funding from the European Union, the French state, the Sud Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region, the Bouches-du-Rhône Department, the Aix-Marseille Provence Metropolis and the City of Marseille. It uses its budget to conduct research, buy land and carry out work. Public money is invested in this way to enact the necessary change and developments to attract private investment. Euroméditerranée is supported by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

Bandeau collectivités partenaires d'Euroméditerranée

The French state and local authorities have signed four funding agreements for the following periods: 1995-2001, 2001-2006, 2006-2012 and 2011-2020.

The European Union also provides financial support for one-off projects through its structural funds. Between 1995 and 2012, EU funding amounted to around €50 million, chiefly allocated to the creation of public facilities (Mucem, Boulevard du Littoral, etc.), as well as to longer-term programmes such as inward investment and prospecting abroad.

Up to 2018, investments in the area covered by the Euroméditerranée Urban Development Agency totalled €6.7 billion, including €1.2 billion of public funds.

A further €7 billion of additional public and private investment is planned for the Euroméditerranée extension, bringing total investments to around €14 billion.

Euroméditerranée has helped to reposition Marseille among the top tier of major cities for real estate in Europe by offering private entities the opportunity to invest in offices, housing, retail units and home renovation projects. But more than that, it provides the perfect conditions for companies to set up business and thrive.
