The future starts here

For the past 20 years, the Euroméditerranée Urban Development Agency has been designing, developing and building the sustainable Mediterranean city of the future, right in the heart of the Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolis.

The first phase of the Operation of National Interest (1995-2015) fully delivered on its mission: to develop a new, comprehensive planning project – New Marseille – in a run-down port area.

This project, which is overseen by the French state and local authorities, has come to be recognised as an unprecedented contributor to the city’s increasing appeal as well as to its economic, social and cultural development.

Boasting over 37,000 private sector and 6,500 public sector jobs, it has led to over 5,300 businesses setting up in the area. France’s third largest business district, it is dominated by seven main business segments: real estate/construction, green growth, banking and insurance, health, logistics/international trade, the digital industry, and tourism.

Euroméditerranée is much more than just an international business district with its 650,000 m² of office space. As each piece of the jigsaw puzzle gradually slots into place, it is forming a network of public infrastructure (schools, colleges, international campus, European Hospital, museums such as the Mucem, etc.), retail developments (Les Terrasses du Port, Les Voûtes de la Major, Les Docks Village, etc.), residential buildings (18,000 new homes and 7,000 renovated ones), transport and car parking infrastructure, parks and public spaces.

With its new 170-hectare extension to the north of the initial 310 hectares, Euroméditerranée is now entering the next chapter. This new phase, which has been awarded Eco-City status and is supported by the French investments for the Future Programme, is destined to be a platform for experiments in urban development: testing, rolling out and leveraging innovative services and technologies.

In furthering its ambition to build the sustainable, innovative Mediterranean of the future, Euroméditerranée is placing Marseille firmly on the global map, with 30,000 extra residents and 20,000 new jobs.

More than ever before, Euroméditerranée is positioning itself as Europe’s most ambitious urban redevelopment project.
